Osbert Henry Fynes Clinton (1869-1941) was Professor of French at the University College of North Wales (now the University of Wales, Bangor), from 1904 until his retirement in 1937. He was educated at Oxford University. His book The Welsh Vocabulary of the Bangor District is regarded as a masterpiece and model for the study of dialect.
